Janet Stover- Helping Older Adults at Huron Valley PACE

As the daughter of immigrants, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Janet Stover didn’t have her grandparents around when she was growing up. It’s why she loves working with older adults at UMRC’s Huron Valley PACE in Ypsilanti. “I love hearing their stories.”

In her occupational therapy role at Huron Valley PACE, Janet helps participants live more independently by working with them to regain their strength, improve their balance, and enhance their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). She leads groups in exercise, dance, cooking, and baking. “I really cherish the fact that I get to help older adults,” says Janet, who went back to school at age 42 to work in geriatrics. “At PACE, I have the privilege to work with a population of older adults who are lower-income. It’s meaningful to know I am making a difference in the later years of their lives.”

Janet also cares for older adults by giving to the UMRC Foundation through the Payroll Deduction program. “I just feel like God has really blessed me with this job,” she says. “I want to bless someone else. The little bit that I give adds up to help someone else in need. I hope it inspires others to decide to contribute.”
